Our Purpose:
We wanted to do something to help. We watch the news wondering what
will happen to the displaced families, the homes, lives, and hope
lost. Many Americans of Iraqi descent have watched for years as
their family and friends have suffered. This is for our families,
both American and Iraqi, both here and abroad—because we will
never be indifferent to the suffering of others.
We are fully aware that it is not within our capacity right now
to change the course of Iraq, but we know it is within all of our
capacities to invest in Iraqi future and to do our best to sustain
a high level of awareness. Essentially, we want to keep Iraq in
the mind of America, but not as a country in shambles, rather, as
a country with a proud history, that boasts a degree of diversity
that has both challenged and strengthened it.
The Graphic:
The arc on the tee shirt is a monument on the campus of Baghdad
University. The two sides represent the left and right hemispheres
of the brain, and the intentional opening at the pinnacle symbolizes
open mindedness and the endless possibility of human achievement.
In wearing this shirt, you will be a part of a movement that espouses
your support of Iraqis, pride in their heritage, and the conviction
that, although we cannot necessarily make miracles happen overnight,
everyone can contribute to and invest in the future of Iraq.
The Proceeds and Your Part:
All proceeds raised from this shirt campaign will go to the Rally
for Iraq Scholarship Fund. This fund was started in 2008 for Iraqi
students pursuing higher education at any institution. Funds will
go to tuition money or toward defraying the cost of living expenses.
After the media’s interest wanes, and the inevitable crippling
effects of complacency begin to impact mass attitude toward Iraq,
there will be many of us who will not let Iraq slide into the background.
There are many who have internalized a people’s struggle and
will always want to help. These shirts will help us draw attention
to this cause.
Thank you so much for your support in this initiative to do our
part to help. For more information or further inquiries into our
campaign, please go to our feedback page and drop us a line!
